    Although his personal life was plagued with troubles during the late '80s, Steve Earle wrote a wealth of first-rate songs during that time and the majority of those tunes are collected on the double-disc set Ain't Ever Satisfied. Spanning his career from 1985's Guitar Town to 1991's Shut Up and Die Like an Aviator, Ain't Ever Satisfied hits nearly every high point. It's an excellent retrospective, illustrating exactly why Earle was one of the most acclaimed country singer/songwriters of the latter half of the '80s.

The first time I heard his record "Guitar Town," one song socked it to me more than the others (although that is not to say the other songs didn't smack me a little upside the head): "Fearless Heart."
