I'm only 30, and 30's really not bad -- I got married at 27 and I'm planning on celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary, which means my life isn't even half over yet. That's still pretty young. Lately, though, little music-related pieces of my days have made me feel REALLY old ... Like, for example, driving home for lunch last week, it was a beautiful 60+ degree day out (in Colorado, in FEBRUARY , which is glorious, global warming be damned) ... and I was driving ... MORE

IMHO one of my favorite bands ever, Steely Dan, lost the plot near the end of their first recording career. 1977-80 saw the releases Aja and Gaucho, both of which sold very, very well. But both of them lacked the blistering guitar and sardonic lyrics that adorn the best Dan tracks from earlier days. Perfectly produced? Stellar playing? Yup. Boring and unengaging? Double yup.
So, imagine my surprise when I bought their live “reunion” album, Live In America, and found a l... MORE

Perhaps I'm just unaware of them, but I've never really run into anyone outside of my father who is a big Steely Dan fan. I've been told that they were (and are) a band that people either love or hate, and I guess more people fall into the second category than the first. However, their music is pretty spectacular, especially the early stuff. I highly suggest giving the album 'Countdown to Ecstasy' a listen. It's a little bit 70s to be sure (especially some of the synthesizers... MORE

By BRIAN BERGSTEIN BOSTON (AP) - From clothes riddled with sensors to name tags that detect our moods, computing's next wave could unleash small devices that increasingly augment everyday activities with digital intelligence. That was the predominant vision at a conference on ``wearable computing'' held this week in Boston, where researchers showed off prototypes and discussed ideas. Some attendees took wearable computing to its extreme, donning cyborg-like... MORE

Personally speaking, I love a good list - and the more pointless the better. So, Moggers, I'd like you to suggest your own catalogues of inconsequence. I shall start the ball rolling with.. 3. Zombie (Haitian Divorce)

Steely Dan and the Heavy Rollers band hit the Bimbadgen Estate Winery with World Party as support.

Does anyone else think that Steely Dan sounds like the soundtrack from a red velvet airport lounge circa 1977?

A girl talking to her friend about a third one – a tinge of twinging jealousy in her voice:
"Have you seen the dress she's wearing? It's 'ass-symmetrical,' if you get my meaning. I'm sure the bitch doesn't even have any Steely Dan on her iPod!!!" (sic)
For some obscure reason, bits of random conversation like this find their way to my psyche – permeating it. Which is why I like MOG... MORE

In Pictures: America's Unhealthy Commutes Written by Allison Van Dusen
You might have heard that your commute is killing you. But it's not the doughnut and jumbo-sized coffee you've been downing every morning that's doing it. What's really taking a toll on your health is the polluted air you're breathing, lengthy traffic delays and dodging accidents to and from work. Even as the stress mounts, we put up with it, since most of us can't afford to or don't want to l... MORE

Republican state senator from Thousand Oaks Escheat is a feudal concept that arose from the despotism of the Dark Ages. It stemmed from the principle that property rights depend upon the sufferance of the sovereign, and when a person dies or disappears without heirs, his property reverts to the feudal lord. California revived this medieval doctrine in 1959 and began seizing... MORE

I've been teased for listening to Steely Dan, but that don't confront me none. If it's considered Muzak, then I'll ride the elevator all day long. Say what you want - they were ahead of their time, talkin' about bling in 1973.
