Starling's debut album Sustainer introduces their earnest, power-pop-inflected sound with a dozen cheerfully chugging songs like "Don't Deflate," "Die Hard Crush," "Supertrayed," and "Delusional." While they're not as inspired as fellow Canadians Sloan, Starling's crunchy guitars, poppy harmonies, and able songwriting skills make Sustainer an appealing and promising first effort.
