Although the dates of the two Jazz at the Philharmonic concerts given on this LP are Oct. 19 and 25, 1957, one should assume that the CD reissue of much of the same material has the correct information. In any case, this exciting album finds tenor-saxophonist Stan Getz and trombonist J.J. Johnson taking all of the solos (the Oscar Peterson Trio and drummer Connie Kay are heard exclusively in support of the horns) and successfully battling each other on four uptempo pieces in addition to displaying their warm tones on three ballads. All of this music (except for one of the versions of "It Never Entered My Mind") has been reissued on CD by Verve.
