Man what a beautiful album this is. So refreshing. Came out in July '07. St. Vincent is Annie Clark. She's worked with Glenn Branca's 100 Guitar Orchestra, she was the bassist and backing vocalist for Polyphonic Spree's _Fragile Army_, and she was in Sufjan Stevens's touring band. She's a multi-instrumentalist and provided many aspects of instrumentation on _Marry Me_. People are comparing h

Let me introduce you my dear music quality tester:He's brown, short, fat, cute, and has for best friends my spot of the couch, a heart-shaped red pillow, newspaper and me (duh).^+Note:+ What I'm about to confide here is simply one mere fact I occasionally do. No animals nor CDs were injured (yet).^DOG MUSIC THERAPY - *WHAT’S THAT?* Basically, it's one fine moment where I spend some quality time.
How fortunate are they who have met her! How blessed are the people whom she has worked with! How dreamy-eyed am I whenever I hear Annie's voice. (I do fall in love too easily - vocally in love)Of course choosing for oneself a name which sounds so masculine would not agree with many a soul. But re-christening oneself after the saint of wine making or if your prefer a Caribbean island is perhaps...
Having made her name as part of large performance bands including Sufjan Stevens’ touring band and The Polyphonic Spree you might think Annie Clark would be uncomfortable up onstage alone, but this is not the case. Clark, who performs under the stage name St. Vincent, chats away between songs, thanking the audience sincerely and profusely, relating short anecdotes and cracking the odd joke, whi.
Annie Clarke—stage-named St. Vincent—writes the rarest of love songs, the kind that actually sound a lot like love. Sweet without being cloying, honest but not affected, "All My Stars Aligned" is one such tune from her smashing debut, Marry Me.The gliding arrangement of Clarke's jazz-informed chords and guest pianist Mike Garson's keys recall George Gershwin, of all people. Let's hear your ave
The elusive second chance.... How often have we failed to impress at first and wished for a fresh start? If you are like me, plenty of times. I take a while to get to know; I'm shy. But a lot of people are this way. What about music then? Isn't music just as complex as people are? I have to think the answer is yes. So why am I so quick to judge it at times? I should know better.A while...
I caught the last part of Ms. Clark's set on Austin City Limits on the tube last night. Did not record (drat). Her live performance was first rate, unusual instrumentation (drums, guitar, synth., multiple reed and wind instruments). Think I liked her better live than on her two albums. She sure has a haunting pair of eyes, great stage presence and strong keyboard chops.
This is the first time I've ever listened to a St. Vincent song in full. I've seen her frail, kooky looking image plastered all over internet/magazine ads, but I've never heard someone say "you gotta hear this St. Vincent track!" so I never really bothered to listen besides 30 second increments here and there. I have a short attention span for music I don't know, which sucks, because a lot of t...
St. Vincent's the Bjork next door, the un-awkward Tori Amos who isn't scared of the popular kids, the cool girl in great glasses. There's curly sound-craft on the edges, but the bottom line is The Voice, pitch perfect & rich & torched, anchoring the experimental flights, the playful novelties. "Now, Now" has two things that draw me in: a vast, warm Peter Gabriel-style blip&swirl body, and a chi...
Born in Tulsa, but currently residing in Brooklyn. St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) attended the Berklee College of Music. She has played guitar for both Sufjan Stevens and the Polyphonic Spree. Clark released her debut album, Marry Me, in 2007 for which she was nominated for three 2008 PLUG Independent Music Awards eventually taking home the prize for Female Artist of the Year.Read the full revie...
Wow! We got some serious changes going on here. Has it been like this for a long time on MOG? Anyway, I like the way my page looks like now; but not really how it works. It took me a long time to find that "Add a post" button around here and there are just so many tabs/options/whatever. Worse, the font is too small! Well, that's just me; I have a pretty poor eyesight. Lol!Enough of that. Here's...
