Solo Electric Bass 1 effortlessly careens from frenetic rhythmic tudes to moody atmospheric pieces that veer dangerously close to random instrument plucking,It's not like this is entirely out of left field -- we've been hearing Tom Jenkinson's experiments with live instrumentation since Music Is Rotted One Note, an album now heralded as one of the Squarepusher classics. His electric bass playing.
You know Squarepusher, right? His name's Tom Jenkinson and his tracks are the kind of acid-infused Drum and Bass that turns up in the early hours, after twelve pints and three tequilas, for the sole purpose of reminding you that there's a diminutive, greasy part of the dance floor you haven't pulled shapes on yet. Bang Face calls itself, "A Neo-Rave Explosion of Acid, Jungle, Rave Hardcore, Drum & Bass...
Can't say I dig all the songs on Squarepusher's new one, but you certainly can't deny the man's got talent. Trying to imagine all the micro-tweaks and processing that went into the production of this one kind of boggles the mind. It's like each bass note has some kind of different effect added to it.
