I saw three movies as part of the Tribeca Film Festival yesterday. In between the screenings I had a chance to pick up the new Sons & Daughters album, This Gift. On first listen this AM, it sounds great. Here's Gilt Complex:
I missed them playing in New York on March 22 as we were visiting G's parents but look forward to seeing them next time around.
I wasn’t that familiar with Sons & Daughters when I began listening to their new album The Gift, so I did the first five to six listens without much context. Only right near the end did I find a WFMU recording of their earlier material, which is much darker, more country and, in some ways, more interesting. About two years ago, I went to see Clinic with a few friends at Irving Plaza in New York. We had never heard of the second band of the triple bill, but somehow when Sons and Daughters came on after the opening act we found ourselves three feet from the stage. Sons and Daughters blew us away. They were one of the tightest and most intense bands I have ever seen play. My friend, Susie, thought they sounded like X -- I thought they had their own sound (more Scotland than LA)... MORE
