There's been quite a bit of hubbub about the 40th Birthday of Sgt. Pepper, and rightly so, (Aimee Mann/MOG/MY 2 cents) it is a classic. Alongside The Beatles, Motown had a great year in '67, too. This Wednesday night you will find me at the Royal Albert Hall in London, swaying to the sweet sounds of Smokey Robinson. I'm guessing that I'll have such a good time that I'll be back at the same venue 24 hours later to see Al Green, with his special guest Candi Staton.

This is one sublime cover. Although it was a top 40 hit on its own, it seems to be mostly forgotten nowadays, and the only place I've come across it is on the fourth disc of a Miracles boxed set. I think Marvin Gaye did a version of this song that charted in the U.K., but I've never heard it. Another issue that arises with this song, other than the obvious problem we have vis a vis the assassination of awesome leaders, is one of punctuation. At my current place of employ... MORE
