If you and a friend currently have a $1,000 or so during this current economic recession, and want to spend it in a somewhat haphazard fashion, at least do it in the name of charity. The non-profit auction site Charitybuzz has teamed up with the Songwriters Hall of Fame to offer several one-off opportunities to those who will splash the cash. The one that immediately leaps off the page is the op...
After Jimmy Chamberlin left the band, Billy Corgan lost the last remaining link, aside from himself, from the original lineup. Considering the role Chamberlin played, anyone who followed him had some big shoes to fill. (Check out our previous coverage here and here).Which is why it was interesting that Corgan had set this up initially. [...]
New news today points toward Billy Corgan hiring a nineteen year old drummer after open audition took place to fill the space. Ex-member and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin relieved himself of Pumpkin duty back in March (SG News HERE) and Corgan then announced in the same month that open auditions were going to take place to replace Chamberlain on April 10th of this year (read that news HERE).
MUSIC NEWS - Billy Corgan has announced news of Smashing Pumpkins material releasing this fall, October to be specific. Jeff Schroeder and Ginger Reyes are the only others mentioned as being involved. But. it would seem that the widely reportedly search for new drummer, to replace Jimmy Chamberlin, is paying off. Billy says he's been working with someone for over a week but needs more...
A bill promoted by the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, which forces broadcasters to pay additional performance royalties, climbed its first hurdle yesterday by passing a House Judiciary Committee vote of 21 to 9. Variety’s Ted Johnson reports (via...
took me forever to buy this album.a diehard SP fan.. since i was 14.... but never one of those people who would tattoo their name on my ass or anything. i just wanted to say- the album is pretty good. things always change.. especially in music. people always hem n haw about 'how different new music becomes' as more albums arrive by an artist. but i can say- i wasnt depressed by the production o...
What a difference a day makes.Last night's performance earns an exactly opposite review. In addition to an amazing setlist, Corgan and the rest of the band acted as they normally do -- appreciate of the crowd, thoughtful, thankful, and grateful. Much like last year's Orpheum performance, last night ranks as one of my all time favorite concerts of any band. I was left in awe as expected, but als...
I expected to be writing a favorable and perhaps glowing review of the first of two Smashing Pumpkins shows, but there's just no way I can write something like that right now.Sure, they played Tonight, Tonight, but that song is hardly able to hold my opinion high after last night's end of show antics.I have a major problem with any artist who feels entitled to throw their fame back in your face...
Having waited about 14 years since last seeing the Smashing Pumpkins live, my anticipation soared last Thursday night at the United Palace. See, Billy Corgan and crew played an integral role in my formative years. The Lollapalooza show a million years ago was my first concert and I effectively took guitar lessons from Billy Corgan, learning power chords from Today, neck chords from Disarm, and ...
*Taken from www.partylikesteve.com... The night of August 16th 2008 will always be remembered as the day the music died for me. It is no mystery that I had been waiting to see the Smashing Pumpkins since I was the ripe age of 12. Through the miracle that is my job, I was able to not only see The Pumpkins on August 16th in Charlottesville, Virginia, but I was also able to float backstage and hea...

The Smashing Pumpkins played the annual Bridge School Benefit concert where they performed some wonderful new songs. They also performed "Disarm" with Josh Groban on vocals which I personally find unlistenable, but the rest of the show was A . Download a copy of this show here. The Pumpkins will be playing NYC this coming Thursday and Friday [...]

If I were to make a top ten list of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs "Zero" would be at the top… which might be one reason I fell instantly in love with Le Castle Vania's "Zero Machine." It's kinda obvious this track samples the Pumkins song pretty heavily — right down to the "Wanna go [...]
Okay, I got a joke. What does Billy Corgan and Charlie from Flowers for Algernon have in common? They both went from brilliant to phenomenally stupid in a short period of time. Tracing the trajectory of Billy Corgan would be like trying to find Bin Laden — all over the place. Here you have a man who went from sporting groovy polyester shirts, rockin' out balls to the wall, and writing masterpi...
