Tampa Bay Bucs Cheerleader Britney. These are my TOP 10 ‘BEST’ CD’s for 2007 (Part 1) (1.) SLOAN - NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT – This cd has some of the eclecticism of The White Album, yet it flows like Todd Rundgren's deliberate head trip, A Wizard, a True Star.Hear ‘ANOTHER WAY I COULD DO IT’, ‘ILL Placed Trust’, ‘People Think They Know Me’, and ‘Who Taught You To Live Like Tha

Most of you may know this group, but not this song. I like the Beatle feel of the drums and the sweet Harrison-like guitar bits. These guys make a lot of great music and they have a new CD coming out in a few weeks. You can hear some of it here.http://www.myspace.com/sloanhttp://www.rhapsody.com/goto?rcid=alb.234837&variant=play

    Dignified And Old

The initial American pressing of Sloan's One Chord to Another (1997) contained a bonus disc patterned after the Beach Boys' live-in-the-studio Party! Titled Recorded Live At A Sloan Party!, it features Sloan running through a few of its own songs plus a handful of covers, including Roxy Music's "Over You" and "I Can't Let Go" by The Hollies. In the comments, you'll find a, let's say, unorthodox...

I see there are a slew of Canadians on this here Mog, and I live in Detroit, about 5 minutes from Windsor, Ontario. So, it's only fitting that I open the e-floor for discussion of the greatest band(s) or singer(s) from our northern neighbor. I mean, it's a huuuuuuuuuuuge country, right? So there has gotta be a huuuuuuuuuuuuge number of sweet little rock 'n' rollers from it, right? I'm not a huge...

another hit I'll take on the chin

Sloan's new album, Parallel Play, came out yesterday. My pre-ordered copy is somewhere in the mail, but Yep Roc is nice and lets you download it as well as having a hard copy. This morning, after spilling my coffee on my light blueish green shirt ("I'd call that seafoam," said a co-worker who shouldn't say things like "seafoam"), on my long, hot walk to the train, I listened to the album for the...

SLOAN is one of my favourite bands ever. They have this song, “Coax Me” off of their Twice Removed record. It’s great. There’s this line that describes how I feel about trance. You know, sometimes it’s alright and if you took a happy pill or something you’d beam starbursts and smiles out of your tits.It [...]

when the seasons change we'll look ridiculous
over 2 years ago

I have had a worse season than this. Spring 1994 was hell on earth. Surely summer 2007 isn't *that* bad. But make no mistake, it is awful. So in the interest of turning the beat around, I present "Summer's My Season," by Sloan. It's one long and dirgey play on words -- which would be painful, you'd think, but it's actually fantastic.May it make the remaining weeks of this season bearable.

Sloan releases CD with 30 songs!

Perpetual Canadian Indie Pop Sloan just released a CD yesterday with 30 songs. No, it's not a double CD collection, it's a single CD with 30 songs! It's 76 min long, so that means the average song is roughly 2:30. I usually don't like double albums to begin with, as I think most would be better with some trimming. I haven't heard this enough yet to make decision on what I think about it.There's...

give me some good news but don't lie

I love being proven wrong. Well, when it comes to being proven wrong about things I'd love to be wrong about, like hating the latest album by my favorite band. Never Hear the End of It is still not fantastic, but now that I've sat with it a few months and recently saw Sloan play the songs live, there's more than one song that I can more than stand.Today's example is "Another Way I Could Do It."...

Sloan's New Album Available for Pre-Order on iTunes
over 3 years ago

Sloan's new album is now available for pre-order on iTunes. I was very much impressed with the first single release from this album, "Who Taught You To Live Like That?". For the few who don't memorise everything I write, you can read my post about that track.I'm rather impressed with the volume of content of this album relative to it's price. The album has a whopping 30 songs. In an age whe...

A Fantastic Album From Sloan

Sloan's new album, Never Hear the End of It, is fantastic. Absolutely brillant. It get the full five stars out of five.Firstly, this album is rock'n'roll in the best sense of the genre. The style reminds me of some of the styles of the late sixties and seventies. Secondly, there are a lot of great songs here that can stand up as singles. Tracks like Who Taught You to Live Like That?, Liste...

Radio Bullshit

Up here in Canada, this song is played a fair deal even on commercial radio. It's a great tune, good-sounding and soulful. I don't have the particular album it's on so radio play is how I normally hear it, usually in someone else's car or house or a restaurant or something. The station I listen to in the car (I drive a LOT) is CJSR, the University of Alberta's campus station. I don't know them ...
