AMG Review of Exit at the Axis
Dave Thompson
All Music GuideAn entirely new band lineup, crowned by the entry of co-vocalist Anisa Romero, saw the exit of Sky Cries Mary's early experimental sound. In its place, the group is now characterized by a fresh, heady mixture of swirling goth drone, spacy prog rock, electronic club sounds, and Romero's pivotal Eastern influences. The EP is comprised of just four songs, but already it disguises any transitional steps that the band might already have taken, to emerge instead with vision and genius already in place. The epic trance story "Elephant Song" is the key track here, but really, all four document a magnificent reinvention.
