The newly-back-together Shudder To Think are coming to play New York City for the third time in as many years next month, playing a sure-to-be sold out set at Bowery Ballroom on September 2. The group, celebrating the release of...

Shudder to Think: Live from Home (Reviews)

Live from Home delivers on the rare prospect of a reunion tour that genuinely seems to be about the music rather than a cynical cash-in.In New York City earlier this month, a re-formed Shudder to Think played what might have been its last reunion show. This followed a 2008 tour that marked a ten-year period of inactivity for the band. Some reports from the New York show, which celebrated the re...

[10-04-2008] My favorite shows make me feel as though I'm watching someone cheat death, the ones that seem slightly out-of-time and off-balance — like I'm not supposed to be there, but by some miraculous twist of fate, I've managed to slip beneath the velvet rope. When Shudder to Think were at the height of their fame, I was riding the school bus with a route number pinned to my jacket. Velvet

An Inch Of Dust On This One

A tall CD Tower that I hadn't touched in three literal years inexplicably toppled this evening, leaving me to scour through very dust covered discs, like this one. Anyone remember Shudder To Think? I saw them as an opener to the Smashing Pumpkins on the Siamese Dream tour, and I ran right out and bought two albums, one of which I can't find. That was the combined "Funeral At The Movies" and "Ten S

A Soundtrack Worth Buying

Oh, I just rediscovered a soundtrack record from 10 years ago - First Love, Last Rites featuring compositions by Shudder To Think. The s/t is very retro sounding. It features vocals by Jeff Buckley, John Doe, Nina Pearson, Billy Corgan and a cast of others including that couple from the band Low. I highly recommend the soundtrack if you can find it in the Amazon bargain bin for $5 or so (acu...

When I heard that Shudder To Think was back together doing a little reunion jaunt and playing a stop in LA, I knew I had to go. I've always thought they were great band, unsung but known in many circles, always reliable and good at just about any damn genre they wanted to tackle on record. I didn't know how they would be live however as I had never got the chance to see them (they disbanded in '98

Wierd how once you notice something, its everywhere...

How this happens, I'll never understand. There'll be some band I've never heard of. Not once... then I stumble across them somehow, usually by accident, and next thing I know, I notice them on everyones music list on myspace, and every band interview I read cites them as their biggest influence. I remember a few years back buying a Drive Like Jehu album because the guy who did my labret loved t...

SHUDDER TO THINK

Shudder to Think are a band that shouldn't be forgotten. Led by intriguing frontman Craig Wedren, these guys started out on Ian Mackaye's Dischord Records. Eventually, they made the hop to a major label, and put out a forward-thinking rock record that people had a hard time understanding. This album, "Pony Express", is an essential listen for anybody into dark and progressive rock music. It baf...
