When Shelly Manne died of a heart attack on September 26, 1984, at age 64, it was a major surprise, for he had been in apparently good health. This rather obscure LP from the Jazzizz label (no connection to the similarly-titled magazine) is the drummer's final recording, and it features his last working group, an excellent trio with pianist Frank Collett and bassist Monty Budwig. Highlights of the live set (Manne's final recording) include "Speak Low," "My Romance" and "Hi-Fly." In addition, Collett and Budwig on January 15, 1985, performed Collett's original "Remember" in tribute to the late drummer. Worth searching for.
