As part of our year-end round-up we've asked some musicians to tell us what their favourite five albums of 2008 are. Not just any ol' music makers, mind. We've spoken to the creators of some of our albums of this year, as well as some fresh-faced folks with records ready in the wings for 2009 plaudits. In part two Ólafur Arnalds, Shearwater, Vetiver, We Have Band and a Bad Seed tell us which f..
I went to a couple of shows in May...here's the first write-up, one more to come some day. Shearwater + Jennifer O'Connor7 May 2008: The Iron Horse — Northampton, MAShearwater, the Texan indie orchestra headed by Jonathan Meiburg (also of Okkervil River), has nailed the big dynamic surge, the transformation in a breath from breathy Talk Talk-ish imagery to strident rock choruses. Their most fr.
Haunting lyrics, haunting song. I grabbed the new Shearwater album today(Rook), which then had me revisiting some of their older stuff...and I was reminded of exactly why it is that I still listen to 2006's 'Palo Santo' ALL the time.

I'm not going to whine about it (well, maybe a little) but this has been a hellish spring for me, starting with the death of my dog on April 1, winding its way through difficult taxes, having to pass a homeland security clearance to coach jr. track (with fingerprints! and background check!), and just being insanely, insanely busy. last friday, for instance, my largest, least-turn-downable clie...
I'm completely on the fence regarding the Austin, TX band Shearwater. Maybe I just need some like-minded junkies' opinions on the matter. While I find the haunting, reflecting music of Jonathan Meiburg to be brilliant and hypnotic, I can't say that I'm in love with the vocals. In the last year or so, my eyes and ears have run across countless industry people who fawn over this group, and I'...
A few years ago i was down at my pub (No I don't own it...it's in back of my house or crawling distance if necessary.)when I ran into my friend Thor. He was drumming with his band called Shearwater after having played in "Angels Of Light" and Lisa Germano...We got to talking about (Smog) and how Bill Callahan was a client of mine. Thor was a big fan and giddily wanted to get in touch with Bill....
rating 7.5summary More Xiu Xiu than shouting, Shearwater stretch benefit of the doubt thin - and ultimately prove they deserve it. Sometime in the last decade the world changed.I'm not talking about global warming or political apathy or youtube or three-legged swampfrogs giving birth to glow in the dark babies - I'm talkin: when did side-project bands become the norm and not a thin skinned ex...
Shearwater's newest album, Rook, is spacious, powerful, almost medieval in presence. Their first album transcended them past mere Okkervil River side-project status - this one makes that association practically irrelevant.

What do you imagine when we say the word Dorset? Seaside city, popular for getaways, sleepy coastlines in places, that type of thing right? What you wouldn't expect is a festival, ever-growing in popularity and now in its third year as a fully fledged three day musical event.
Matablog is reporting OK River offshoot Shearwater is preparing to release their third album, titled The Golden Archipelago. The album arrives February 23rd via Matador.
If you're looking for party music for tonight, I have some great tunes here. I'm not always swooning over gentle, folky stuff like Shearwater, Fleet Foxes, and Liz Durrett. I also like remixes, electronica, and dance rhythms. Solid Gold, from my Top 10 CDs of 2008, is a giant clue. Gang [...]
