The crew here managed to fly through some 70 sets of music last week, and boy is our abilty-to-wade-through-the-sadness-that's-passing-for-buzzed-up-indie-rock tired. There's a very scientific formula to attaining that coveted "Guess I should see this band 'cause everybody's saying I should" status: The first criteria is, of course, a widely circulated Hype Machine single. But in its absence, ...
School of Seven Bells I let the guitar wash over my body. Bending notes twisted my arms and legs in "s" shapes at places they are not meant to twist like that. The brisk tapping of cymbal effects massaged my neck like stiff rain and bass shook the intestinal flora off the highest peaks of my [...]
Last year I came upon a track by Prefuse 73 featuring School Of Seven Bells entitled "The Class Of 73 Bells" which is a rework of a song off of their new album Alpinisms called "Iamundernodisguise". I'm a part time Prefuse fan, but this track was awesome. I really didn't do any research of who [...]
Prepare to be wowed by Brooklyn trio School of Seven Bells whose first full-length CD, Alpinisms , is set for release on October 28. Their smooth dance-beats, Benjamin Curtis's guitars, and the breathy, entwining vocals of sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza have sweetly seduced most of the music-blog world with the pre-release of the single "Connjur" from that album. Fans of Blonde Redhea...
School of Seven Bells are three friends. They make music, want people to hear it, and want to play it for you. They'll be in Boston twice over the next few months. First, playing an in-store at Urban Outfitters on Newbury, and then along side M83 at the Middle East downstairs. When M83 was last [...]
School of Seven Bells - "Face to Face on High Places". Fly to Greenland in a twin-engine plane, your pockets filled with Jolly Ranchers and freshwater pearls. Set down on a flat of snow, like the back of some vast arctic hare. Leave the propeller going & dig. Put your back into it. Yes, the Northern Lights seethe, yes there's much to explore in Nuuk & Kangerlussuaq. But dig. After two long wint...
Dream-weaving trio School Of Seven Bells have served up this Alpinsims tune in studio and Decomposed form, and this new Tony Halbrooks-directed frames it well, with just the right mix of the real and the surreal: the Deheza twins cruise the city by night, lights and faces going in and out of focus, film flapping as they drive on to the sunrise. Poor Ben apparently wasn't invited along for the ...

One part Secret Machines (Ben Curtis) and two parts On!Air!Library! (Alejandra and Claudia Deheza) and you have School Of Seven Bells - a new project on Ghosty Records that's making a lot of noise on the interwebs. Curtis and the twins met while both were opening for Interpol with their respective projects at the time. They've been making a name for themselves opening for heavyweights l...
Last year ex-Secret Machines founder Benjamin Curtis formed School of Seven Bells and released an EP. They're quite a departure from Secret Machines -- for starters the lead vocals are by the twin sisters from the band On! Air! Library! This is the first track off the EP. Hopefully they'll release an LP in 2008.
As a whole, the original Alpinisms warrants much praise. Songs like “Iamundernodisguise”, “Half Asleep” and “Connjur” are, quite literally, among the best electro-pop songs released this year. And, in some ways, School Of Seven Bells defies that genre classification, as their music strays into an occasional repetitive shoegaze, hints at a little feedback filled noise, and dives headl
