Saul Williams, one of hip-hops poet laureates, has been getting a lot of attention lately for his collaboration with Trent Reznor and his promotion of DRM -free music. But what I haven't heard anyone talk about is a move that's seeming incongruous with a political rap leader who's worked with the likes of Zak De La Rocha and the Fugees, the selling of his song for a Nike ad:
I don't have a problem with selling out per se, but I do like musi... MORENike spot

So, in the spirit of yesterday's post I'm posting the following from Saul Williams: When I first saw the video for Kanye West's "Sierre Leone" I thought it was ABOUT something. Imagine my surprise and chagrin.

This video isn't brand new, but I sure missed it until now and I see no one else on MOG has posted it yet... Here is the official video for Saul Williams' cover of U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" from The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust and produced by Trent Reznor:... MORE

Saul Williams is heading out on a thirty date tour in support of "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!". The Trent Reznor produced album has been praised by both critics and fans.
"The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! is the lovechild of Trent and me," says Williams. "The Niggytardust concept sets me free to do more on stage with costume, etc. than one might expect from a regular Saul Williams show. It allows me to put my theatre training to... MORE

Saul Williams has plotted a course for his "The Tar Spangled Banner Tour" in support of his latest album, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! The album was produced by Trent Reznor and released online by FADER Mag's record label in a pay-what-you-please scheme similar to what Radiohead did with their new album. It is available 100% DRM -free from NiggyTardust.com and includes PDF artwork. Williams describes his creation as:
"The Inevitable Rise and

I saw this yesterday on Saul Williams' myspace. Don't ask me why I was there in the first place because I honestly do not remember. I do remember thinking as I was reading this letter that it seemed really appropriate for this time as we are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and looking back upon the struggles of black Americans for freedom and equality. Are we in a place now that we can look back and laugh at the backward nature of generations before? Are we still in... MORE

My first MOG post. Yay. So I first heard of Saul Williams when I was 13 and reading anthologies of slam poetry like Slam . I remember clever little sentences in the margins with "Saul Williams" written under them. Of course I became an instant fan.
I caught wind of The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! when I was doing research for a class actually. Some article had listed it as a Nine Inch Nails album. I've never been a fan of NIN , but when I went... MORE

So I haven't been mogging for a long time, mostly because of time constraints, but I'm coming back (albeit rather slowly). I decided to celebrate my reintroduction into mog culture by talking about Saul Williams new album: "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!" This album can be found on Saul Williams Website. You can either download the album in 192 kbps mp3 format for free, or pay $5.00 and get it in 320 kbps mp3 or even FLAC Lossless.
The album itself ... MORE

I'm wary when it comes to a superstar(in this case Trent Reznor)lending his name to an "upcoming" artist because he/she thinks this artist is great. Why? Cream rises to the top, right? If its good then the music will make it to the ears of the willing, right? I like Saul Williams and he would make it to my ears regardless of who endorses and/or produces his music. That said this track is slammin'.... MORE

I can't wait to download Saul William's new album when I get home. Sadly, I totally forgot about it this morning or I would be listening to it right now. Yes, I paid for my download. I support bands that I respect and like -- not whores like Britney Spears. That's all I got. Here's a video:

Sadly I'm sure Spears will have quite a few records sold. Avoid the gutter snipe, check out Saul Williams, produced by Trent Reznor!
