Sometimes I'm wandering around Borders and get surprised. I forgot a friend had told me that Sam Phillips is doing an in store appearance at the Tysons Corner, VA Borders this weekend. So I was surprised when he told me, and pissed when I found it is Sunday June 8th and I can't bleeping go because of a work meeting. Nonesuch Records has relaunched its site with an interesting twist- when you buy a physical CD, they'll ship it to you, and provide you with immediate access to DRM-free 320k downloads. kind of cool, but also betwixt and between. one wonders why they didn't just go whole hog and offer a lossless option, saving the cost of shipping the physical product.
stiill, unlike rhapsody the site appears to be available worldwide, and the do have an extremely eclectic catalog.

So I wore this album out one winter in Chicago, while building a guitar in my friend's cabinet shop. Talk about freezing. Wet-sanding a finish when you can't feel your fingers. Not so fun. But I got it done, and still play it once in a while. The point is: she's good. She doesn't have a huge vocal range, and her whole thing is sort of obscure.
