Tomorrow Night (Wednesday, July 16) Canadian trio RUSH will play its classic "Tom Sawyer" on the Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report." For the twenty years that I have been driving, I have become a master of the air drum...There are those that play air guitar, but I can drive with my knees for miles while I air drum - a well honed skill. Now (finally) there is a movie celebrating the power and the glory that is the air drum. "Adventures in Power" takes the air drum and puts it on the big screen in all it's splendor. BEHOLD:
While it's a fantastic song, Tom Sawyer has been stuck in my head for I think almost a month now. It's like all of my empty thoughts are quickly replaced by the addicting tunes of Rush. So I'm hoping that if I make this post somehow it will get it out of my head...

I recall once telling Mike Godwin that this was one of my favorite albums, to which his reply was, "But you can't dance to it." I'm not sure if he was being facetious at the time, referring of course to the traditional rating comment on American Bandstand, but it's a comment that's lived with me to this day. Of course you can't dance to Rush--it's progressive, "arty," rock, that's meant to be listened to, and somewhat closely at that, kind of like Take Five in the jazz wor... MORE
