Never suffer through a bad date again....EVER
over 2 years ago

Oh...if I had a nickel for every time that I was out on a first date and thought to myself, 'Self, this girl is as much fun as a root canal, FOR THE LOVE GOD I can't wait for this night to end'...I would be a millionaire. Now there is no reason to subject yourself to that kind of torture EVER again. I stumbled across a website that will call your cell phone at any scheduled time. Or if, like me,...

Rufus Wainwright sings about love, life, and Los Angeles on his new record...and he has never sounded better. This is such a great record...I will leave the reviews to the writers, but I have listened to 'Release The Stars' like 4 times today and I think it is terrific! Here is one of my favorites....

Like father, like son (the words take on a different meaning)

Sometimes you find an artist who just seems to be born into their talent. Some seem to have talent coursing through their genes. For the later, Rufus Wainwright seems to have won the genetic lottery when it comes to talent. Being the son of Loudon Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle (a Canadian folk singer/song writer) certainly didn't hurt his chances of winning.Loudon Wainwright is one of those ...

Rufus Wainwright - Release the Stars

Mog Stars out of ten: 9“Do I disappoint you, in just being human?”...it’s hardly the most uplifting way to start an album, but then you don’t go to Rufus Wainwright looking for joy. Coming from a singer-songwriter pedigree that anyone would be proud of, he was nominated for awards for his own tunes since the age of 14, but while his musical career has gone from strength to strength he has

Add this song's origins (one of my favorite covers..I can't resist a mournful harmonica) to my ever-growing list of "I Did Not Know This" items. There's more here and here and here. The Google is an amazing thing."Boys Town, and the film of the same name starring Spencer Tracey, inspired the writing of The Hollies' classic, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother by Americans Bobby Scott and Bobby Russ...

Rufus Wainwright & Kate McGarrigle - My Funny Valentine (circa 2003)

Michelle and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. We dont believe in this Faux holiday. In our minds every day should be V-day and not just on Feb 14th. Our anniversary is on Feb 16th. This is what we celebrate. My boss keeps on giving me a hard time about not celebrating V-day. He doesn't get it. Oh well...I love this version of My Funny Valentine by Rufus and his Mama. Enjoy!

I don't know if this fits the traditional guidelines for Sunday Covers but a couple of years back when they were putting together the countries first all gay public high school in NYC, otherwise known as the Harvey Milk School, John Cameron Mitchell had gotten together a bunch of recording artists to cover the songs he wrote for his fantastic off-broadway play, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", proc...

The Little Drummer Boy BeatBox Edition - Rufus Wainwright and Family at Carnegie Hall

Bob Seeger's version above will always have a special place in my heart, but the beatbox version was certainly something to behold the other night at Carnegie Hall. Wish I could find it on YouTube.Twas the now annual McGarrigle Christmas Hour with Rufus, Martha, Teddy Thompson, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, EmmyLou Harris, and Jimmy Fallon (who actually seemed to be prepared and didn't laugh his w...
