I have noticed for years how many people credit Bob Dylan for the harmonica playing in Handle with Care. I noticed many years ago that it was in fact Roy Orbison who played it.I have uploaded a picture of proof to back up my beliefs. If you watch the video for Handle with Care you will notice a pair of arms wearing black jacket sleeves with red shirt sleeves showing out the end just as the hands go up to play the harmonica. When your opening act is the Beatles, you've gotta be good. Elvis called him the greatest singer in the world, and Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees referred to him as the "Voice of God." It's perhaps because his label didn't market him as cleverly or because his looks weren't astronomical, his talent was underrated. In honor of the Traveling Wilburys box set coming out in a week or two (mine's already on order), I wanted to dig out this gem for those who might not have heard it. Jeff Lynne was heavily involved in one of Roy Orbison's last albums, Mystery Girl. On that LP is one standout track, written by Lynne, which is absolutely gorgeous - one of the most beautiful melodies he's ever written (and that is saying a LOT), Roy's soaring operatic vocal...it really gets to me, and... So, today I'm going back to work - a half day to ease my way back in. I can't really complain though, because it's what I love doing (behavior analysis), it's for a good company, and I get to help people who have suffered severe head injuries and their families. Plus, there's the paycheck.
This song doesn't apply too well because at this job I'm kind of "the Man" that people will be working for, but it's still a sweet song...and I still have to go back to work.
