Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction, Brooks Waterman of Bad Religion and ?uestlove of The Roots, Adrian Young of No Doubt, Byron McMackin of Pennywise and the Street Drum Corps are among the badass drummers that will be present at the 9th annual Drum-Off Grand Finals. Roots, Neville Brothers, Toots and the Maytals, Ziggy Marley, Taj Mahal, Mickey Hart's Mass Drums and Los Lonely Boys will all perform at the Green Apple Festival this summer - though not all together. Being torn apart from bloggers and Hip-Hop Elitists, Roots are pulling back on their "Birthday Girl" song as their single. That sucks because it sounds way better than any Gym Class Heroes song. Anyways Hip-Hop DX says bloggers and Hip-Hop Elitists are pissed with the involvement with Fall Out Boy's Patrick Slump calling it the worst song ever from the Roots. I'm glad that The Roots (Questlove) listen to their (his) fans. With that being said, I am a major fan of The Roots, and I want more Black Thought, and less features. I bought the new album, and it's just too cluttered. I really like "I will not apologize." but if Black Thought would have had all three verses to himself... A laid back but throughly swingin' groove hooked with some guitar work that wouldn't be out of place on Philadelphia International Record from the 70's(Many of which had writing or production from the featured Bunny Sigler), sets the table, but Black Thought's first verse makes this my fav track on the record.He mentions the statue on city hall (William Penn), calls out his neighborhood (South Philly), shouts out to one PIR song (aint no stoppin us now), reps a PIR artis... I had to post about the Roots show I went to last night at the Nokia Theatre. It was the 10th time I've seen them in the past 5 years and this show is rated at or near the top of the list. The concept of the Hip Hop Honors Tour was that the Roots would cover classic songs through the history of hip hop, given them the twist of being performed by a live band. Nearly a week since my last Mog, and I am experiencing withdrawal symptoms: random bodily twitches; unprovoked head nods; rhythmic tapping with feet and fingers; sounds reverberating across different nodes in my cortex.
I can't continue the impromptu mixtape I began last week, but I need my Mogfix. I didn't even have to dig for this one; it just appeared in my hand.
