All Music GuideRob McConnell's 22-piece Boss Brass welcomes alto great Phil Woods to four of the eight selections on this release, including a remake of Woods' famous feature with Quincy Jones, "Quintessence"; the altoist also tears into "Out of Nowhere." McConnell's swinging arrangements are full of subtle creativity, as shown during fresh versions of "If Dreams Come True" and "Jive At Five," and there are some excellent solos by trumpeter Guido Basso, Rick Wilkins on tenor, and guitarist Ed Bickert, providing two additional reasons to search for this memorable set.
