"How come you don't come PLP with me down at the meters no more?"I remember asking, " What the heck does PLP mean, mom?"She shrugged and had to ask one of her hip friends."Public leaning post, son." Which then made perfect sense to me. I like to do that, too.And then I could sing the whole song without feeling like I was in the out crowd. And Oh man, Steve Gadd brings the groove back in from th...
Rickie Lee Jones's 11th album shows inspiration, but only fitfully.Balm in Gilead opens with a song called "Wild Girl". Combining massed harmony vocals, doo-wop finger snaps, and skeletal jazz guitar chords, Rickie Lee Jones propels the song's unconventional structure with her unique, airy voice, building to a stirring yet understated climax. It's a hell of a way to begin an album, but the effe...

But I am sure that I cannot sit on this review any longer.A little over a week ago, I heard something about Rickie Lee Jones putting out a new album. I did a quick search on the web and found, sure enough, that her new album had come...
Talk to me people. Has any one given this woman a serious listen?? I don't mean 1 or 2 tunes, I mean a serious listen? Sampled her catalog? I've posted Rickie on many occasions with very little feedback and I was surprised. She does it for me!

One of my favorite CDs by *Rickie Lee Jones* is the one of all cover tunes, ??It's Like This??. I've always loved her voice. Her own compositions? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.As Beatles covers go, this is not a re-invention but not a slavish copy either. A good Sunday morning tune.
