Britney's had a rough go of it lately. But it takes Richard Thompson to bring out the soul and emotion in this song. I heard him play this in the studio on NPR's fresh air prgram with Teri Gross, it was hilarious and amazing.

Richard Thompson's new album, Sweet Warrior, is out in May, and it's a beauty. Playing it through a few times today got me to thinking about one of his songs from a few years back, a little-known tune 'Dear Janet Jackson', which he wrote and performed just a couple of days after the notorious Superbowl incident of 2004.

It'd be easy to ignore another record by Richard Thompson, because he's so dependably excellent. That would be a mistake though, because no one is better at what he does, a sort of celtic-based but kitchen sink-influenced brand of passionate folk rock...as bitterly sardonic as anything you'll hear. Thompson has a new album called "Sweet Warrior" out, and it's a real sleeper. Here's one of the best songs on it, a very pretty piece called "Poppy Red".
