I kicked off my first show of 2008 with a bang on Sunday night at the sold-out Reverend Horton Heat at the Bluebird Theatre. One thing I love about live shows, aside from the music, is the abundance of people-watching ... I walked in to find a sea of uber-hipsters, punk rockers, rockabilly hepcats, and a reasonable enough amount of thirty-something guys and dolls to make me feel at home. After grabbing a Newcastle at the bar, I took some time to marvel at the site ... a gi... MORE
Concert on Saturday was awesome. I'm not gonna say much because goodmusiconly's post a couple days ago was a pretty good description of it. The venue was the Granada Theater over in Dallas. Very nice place to see a show. This local band called Slowride opened the night. They were okay at best. Then Nashville Pussy came on and completely rocked the place. They have so much attitude it's unbelievable. And of course the Reverend Horton Heat was as good live as everyone says.... MORE
Now that Nolan has seen Reverend Horton Heat play live, he may never want to attend another middle school dance. Heck – he’ll probably want to drop out of middle school, start wearing rolled up jeans and mechanic’s shirts, and wearing his hair in a pompadour now. Then it will be tattoos, and a wallet held on by a chain…and it will all be my fault. Last night, by some stroke of complete magic, Reverend Horton Heat played an all ages show in Seattle. I have been wan... MORE
The night was "absolute unadulterated entertainment" according to our concert review of the Reverent Horton Heat at the Showbox.
Nothing better at the end of a long working day than a dirty gin martini up with a layer of ice and extra olive.
I saw the Rev in Pittsburgh, PA on March 24, 2007 at Rex Hall. I have seen the Rev many times in and around NYC. I have also had my money refunded for shows where the Rev was too drunk to get on stage. I am thrilled to say the Rev has cleaned up his act and is playing better than ever. The band ripped onto the stage with a handful of favorites that sounded tight and joyful. Jimbo and the new drummer were flawless, but the biggest change was the clear concentration a... MORE

Just a little while ago I baked a batch of scrumptious banana chocolate chip cookies. As I am wont to do with such things, I took a number of pictures of the cookies before and after baking (38 pictures, to be exact). I plugged my memory card into the computer, and then the funniest thing happened. Just as the very Reverend Heat's Space Heater began playing, a very quick slide show of my cookie pictures began cycling, perfectly in time to the music. Dancing cookie blob... MORE
I decided to finally make it out to catch a rock n roll sermon from the great Reverend Horton Heat for the first time tonight. I had no idea what a serious cult following he had. He rocked to a packed out Mercy Lounge with Nashville's own burlesque show Panty Raid opening. I missed most of Panty Raid, as the show started a little earlier than expected, but the Reverend more than made up for it. I'm not a seasoned punkabilly or psychobilly fan, so I didn't quite know what t... MORE

It was Sunday night and everything was going swell. We were just sitting down to watch the Sopranos. My husband had some crappy excuse for beef stroganoff TV dinner heating up in the microwave. Several minutes into the show, we both went to the kitchen for a snack. He took his half cooked TV dinner from the microwave, stirred it, put it back in and pressed start. The silence was deafening. He pressed start several more times and still nothing happened. I pressed start, kno... MORE
Hmmm. I saw Reverend Horton Heat open for Frank Black in the early 90s. Their set blew me away and I didn't want them to leave. It turned into a rockin' revival of sorts that whipped the club into a frenzy (or maybe my memory fails and I'm idealizing something that didn't happen?!) The headliner paled in comparison (sorry, Frank). So I'm getting geared up to see them in November with the Legendary Shack Shakers (who sound great live and in the studio). I just download...
