In 1962, Ray Charles turned the musical world on its ear with his soulful take on popular country and western music of the day with his Modern Sounds In Country and Western Music. Later that ...

The term genius has been used so often that it doesn’t seem to pack the same amount of attention that it once did. But when it comes to a few music legends, the phrase seems to be the only word to describe them.

I bought this entire album on iTunes and noticed that, on the duet with Norah Jones "Here We Go Again" there is a loud buzzing electronic noise between 3:00 - 3:05. Very jarring.I thought "Great. iTunes sold me a defective track, or my computer couldn't handle it".Then I received the actual CD as a gift. I re-loaded that track to correct the problem, but the exact same noise is there.Has anyone...

Released on October 3, 2006, _Ray Sings, Basie Swings_, combines archival, never-heard-before Ray Charles' vocals with brand new recordings from the Count Basie Orchestra. I haven't bought the album, but it's on my list & I have heard most of it on Sirius. Absolutely fantastic. It's remarkable what these sound engineers can do. Amazon.com sample of "Let The Good Times Roll" As Grammy nomina...

What can I say that isn't written elsewhere on MOG. I share details of myself all of the time. My life growing up on a farm to my hometown now. It's all here. If you want to know me just dig up old posts. There is not much I haven't been willing to share, save this story. This is the best recollection (I added some back history to set the time and place) of a tale told to my wife and me by uncle...

As J.J. Hunsecker says in "Sweet Smell of Success," "I love this dirty town."From "The Genius Hits The Road," Ray Charles' first album for ABC-Paramount after leaving Atlantic, and his travelogue concept album in the vein of Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me," comes this ode to NYC.

We were at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame dinner, the year Billy Joel was inducted (I know, you're asking: Why?, but whatever…), and the thing about Joel getting in was that he asked Ray Charles to be his inductor. Ray Charles accepted (again: Why?), and he came out to do his presentation, and in the midst of it, I turned to my colleague and said/asked: "He's the greatest living American musici.
