All Music GuidePercussionist Ray Barretto, best-known as a sideman, had a rare chance to lead a session in 1991 and his Concord Picante debut is quite impressive. With saxophonist Steve Slagle, trumpeter Tim Ouimette and trombonist Barry Olson leading the frontline of this septet, Barretto mostly sticks to group originals for an infectious Latin jazz session.
