Compared to last year, it was a gorgeous night at Jones Beach for the Ratdog / Brothers double bill. Ratdog gets to go on first but play an almost full two hour set. The Brothers headline and play for a little over 2 hours. Ratdog was really good. I like the jazzy vibe that they bring and in fact I am digging it moer than Phil & Friends these days. Phil needs new friends, but that is a different post. I am really looking forward to the Westbury shows in October. Th... MORE
Just one of the many highlights from last night's show in Lowell I felt the need to share with y'all.
Here's "The Other One" with Dennis McNally doing a reading from "On The Road" in the midst of it. It works, trust me.
Get into a bebop frame of mind and put on your noodling shoes, don't need no drugs just a little shift out of the yesterdays and tomorrows; the "New Vision" ain't so new anymore, but it's still around sometimes, somewhere...

As long as we're "skirting the edge" as evidenced by Anna's post (here) this somewhat seedy song came to mind, enjoy... Well, I spend my tomcat nights in New OrleansAlways 'round this red moon time of yearJust let it go, and fall right off the deep end 'Cause you sure don't look for soul salvation here Bars and alleys are running wild with Frat RatsAnd your three-piece Bible-belt conventioneersAnd your drag queens and your strip barsAnd your hazy purple streetlights Al... Thanks for the feedback on the Original Post, I started a comment and it turned into this..... I guess my most memorable "synch" was coming home from overseas after a long voyage aboard a freighter, (I was in the Merchant Marines for a few years), lovesick with infatuation and "coming of age" emotionally, (read: turmoil in coflict), my folks bought me "Go To Heaven" by the Grateful Dead; they rarely bought music, and were not at all familiar with what they were buying, an... Well the much anticipated new and improved has arrived and I just had to kick the tires and take her out for a spin this morning before getting ready for work.Pros - the integration is fun; a total mashup of all the vids, songs, trusteds, and favs makes it eternally browsable without ever leaving the site.Cons - Too easy to get lost in here, "Honey, Where are you?" "I'm lost in the mogos and I can't find my way out!" What do you mean jambands isn't a genre? If hip hop and ... MORE
Went to night one of the McDowell Mountain Music Festival and for the most part thoroughly enjoyed myself. The Neville Brothers were seriously funky - funkier than the last time I saw them - even if they did pretty much the same stuff I remember them playing 15 years ago - Iko Iko, Fire on the Bayou, Yellow Moon, Voodoo, Tell It Like It Is, Fever, etc. plus a killer version of Herbie Hancock's Chameleon. Ratdog's set was a little wearying. But then I'd been up for 14 hour... MORE
