"Robbie Williams, Radiohead and Kate Nash are among Britain's top pop and rock acts who are demanding more control over their music."

It's about one in the morning here in SF and my feet still ache just as much as they did three hours ago when a mass of 60,000 of us tried to exit Golden Gate Park, the site of this years Outside Lands Festival. As with every music festival known in the history of man, a swift exit was just not in the cards for us. After the crowd tore down a fence, we trampled through the forest and the trees in the park and started the two-mile trek back to the car. Now I know why they c... MORE

San Francisco’s Outside Lands, spread out over the verdant core of Golden Gate Park, in its first year, is one of the biggest music festival ever in Northern California. Friday’s show was expected to draw 50,000+ fans and in total draw about 180,000 people over the weekend. We came with merry thoughts of an ideal line-up, from Beck to Radiohead to Manu Chao and Cold War Kids, while relaxing under the trees. The benefit of the festival is it has an incredible forest atmos... MORE

Hi Book Nerd. A lot of these should be obvious. For some of the more obscure ones, I added a note. The last song was more of a thematic thing. I eschewed the whole Led Zepplin/Lord of the Rings tie-in, as (from an indie bookstore customer perspective) I would never shop at your bookstore if I had to listen to "The Battle of Evermore" and "Misty Mountain Hop" on loop. Hope that's ok.

I think I'll try to erase the last couple of days from my memory. They have mostly consisted of vile sickness, stomach cramps, coughing and me frequently asking my husband to "just shoot me now!". Nope, I wasn't at Glastonbury, I have had a virus and a summer cold, one after the other. Today is the first time I have felt like blogging. Now, if you ever have the misfortune to loose your voice or are too shy to talk to someone using your own voice (?) why not try the voi... MORE
What happenin' Moggers? My apologies for not keeping tabs here past month. So what's new? My musical taste has changed a little, been listening to Beethoven and Brahms, sweet stuff. Some new stuff, some old stuff, I've been going at it with learning new popular songs as well as some classical stuff. Ode To Joy and little pieces. More difficult of course than a pop song. As far as pop songs go I've learned how to play/accompany Okkervil River : Maine Island Lovers, A ... MORE
Part 2 - Exit Music
We had an family members birthday party to attend, which meant that if the concert were possible, I would miss The Liars. This was a sacrifice I was willing to make since I wasn't familiar with their music. I never would have done such a dis-service to an opening band in the past (unless I really didn't like them), but my time is so limited, it seemed like the best way to meet all my obligations. At the birthday party, we talked to my sister-in-law... MORE

From Zeropaid.com Releases 2008 Digital Music Report which says, among other things, that govts and ISPs must begin to "take responsibility" and protect creative content. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry(IFPI) released its annual Digital Music Report yesterday and it paints a somber picture of an industry still in crisis mode. It says that the music industry's revenue from digital music sales rose some 40% over the past year, but the growth is ... MORE
From ananova.com Radiohead will release a greatest hits album this April, against the will of the band. The best of album will be released by EMI, the record label the Oxford band turned their back on in 2007 ahead of the independent release of seventh album, In Rainbows. The revelation was made to Canadian TV presenter Strombo by guitarist Ed O'Brien, who said: "They're planning to do a greatest hits for April, May to coincide with our tour. That's an interesting on... MORE
You know how sometimes bands that have a truly great album sometimes have an album that precedes the great album, and it's almost great, showing it's potential, but for some reason it's just not as great as the great one? Example? How about The Bends as a predecessor to OK Computer? How about Mellow Gold to Odelay? Each of the preceding records were good, in fact, really good, but then they loose all comparison because of what followed. Do you guys have others?... MORE
