Michael Stipe isn't exactly camera shy. To see what I mean check out his doe-eyed mug on indiepixie's post.
Stipe and the rest of R.E.M. will now release the 192 page book R.E.M. HELLO consisting of pictures taken by Seattle-based photographer David Belisle on June 1st.
Of the 192 pages, 175 of them are color and black & white photographs of the band. According to book's publisher Chronicle Books:
David Belisle has photographed and traveled with R.E.M. for ... MORE

"Hollow Man," the second single from R.E.M.'s new album Accelerate, premiered exclusively on MySpace TV on Wednesday, April 23rd. The video for "Hollow Man" was created by Crush Inc. - a cutting edge graphic-design and production studio based in Toronto. R.E.M front man Michael Stipe had this to say about the innovative
clip... "I wanted Hollow Man to be a piece that creates a chaotic universe that only really occurs on a desktop, backlit and made of light, and to ... MORE

There's been a lot of hype and publicity because, yes, REM have released a new album. It's their best ever. Or, that's what I am led to believe by everything I read. It's loud! It's rocky! It's better than Around the Sun! And yet.... last time they came out with something loud and rocky, following on from two more melodious albums, REM were slaughtered in the press; hung out to dry; Does anyone remember Monster and the reviews from back then? I liked Monst... MORE

So we've been holding out on you....saving the best stuff for last. Here is BY FAR my favorite clip from the Stipe Interview. Here we had been talking for about 45 minutes and he was clearly comfortable.... (CLICK ON FULL POST TO SEE VIDEO ) I ask him a question from Extraordinary Poems...(excellent q Chica!) and he ends up going on a hilarious tangent..... involving Cher, Vomit, NY Times, and jewish orthodox split pea soup.... Unreal....... MORE

Cripes, I have no excuse for not writing. But now, after hearing a bunch of new music seeing a bunch of bands, I've got a Mog backlog. So now I'm going to make up for it. I'll start with an easy, yet possibly provocative item: Holy crap, I really like this new R.E.M. album! I mean, I like it possibly more than -any- R.E.M. album, and it's definitely better than anything in at least 10 years. And it's largely because - as Stephen Colbert pointed out when the ba... MORE

And I'm not dreaming.
Let's start from the beginning. Last Thursday, I headed to an opening of Ryan McGinley's photography in Soho, innocently with my good friend Spyro.
Some background: Ryan McGinley is an ingenue- his photos both gritty and ethereal. This show- was dosed in blissed out sunshine- of celestial beings- afloat in liquid, suspended in air- battling with gravity- lost in fields.
He was the youngest photog to be displayed at the Whitney Museu... MORE

Being an olds, I can still remember vividly the first flush of "that-is-fucking-genius" feeling that I heard on Murmur and the Chronic Town EP. REM over the last three decades - Geebus, can it be that long? - has consistently issued some of the best, sweetest, saddest, and occasionally hip-groovin' sounds out there. Which is absolutely amazing for a ROCK band of that age.
I've seen the band three or four times live and they have consistently, again, provided great, energ... MORE

Barack Obama is gaining ground! The Phillies are finally out of the metaphorical basement of the MLB ! And (most importantly), R.E.M. are kickass again! I can die happy!
I heard Supernatural Superserious on 104.5 fm the other morning, and was really just surprised that Michael Stipe & co. can still write a damn good song, especially after the bleh they've been putting out lately. Great riff, great lyrics, great backing vocals even.
Kudos, Rapid Eye Movement. ... MORE

R.E.M. is in the midst of a full court "press" for "Accelerate" which is cool. I have all their records.
I do find it interesting that Michael and Peter continue to trash "Around the Sun" in Spin, on the MOG interview, and elsewhere.
I like parts of it and especially this song. Am I alone?... MORE

Ever wonder what goes on in the mind of Mr. Stipe? Well I've got another clip here from the interview with Michael Stipe during SXSW where Michael Stipe talks about his dreamworld and the song "Sing For The Submarine." Since Accelerate was just released April 1st, it's pretty interesting insight.
{PLEASE LINK TO FULL POST TO SEE VIDEO }
The beginning of the interview, Michael's eye kinda drift off to the side. What you can't see is he was staring out the window o... MORE

After two consecutive albums dominated by mid-tempo fare, R.E.M. gets back to its stripped-down, fast-paced rock roots on "Accelerate," due this week via Warner Bros. The 11-track set, which gets in and out in a lightning-quick 34 minutes and change, is led by the single "Supernatural Superserious."... MORE

I finally got to mention MOG .com in a story in USA TODAY . An accompanying story tells how R.E.M., 50 Cent and other musicians are tapping into social networks. Both are available by going to "USA TODAY ": http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2008-03-24-musicsites_N.htm Finally. Mike... MORE
