Tool frontman Maynard recently spoke to RollingStone.com about his new recording project, Puscifer. According to Maynard, Puscifer "is my attempt to make music to inspire people. Maynard James Keenan is one of my favorite artists. Now I'm really not some prog-rock metal head who's had a hard on for Tool since I was old enough to raise a fist, but I just love everything he does. His latest project, Puscifer, is another interesting addition to his body of work that is more stripped down and ego-driven than both Tool and A Perfect Circle. Maynard Keenan of Tool has a new side project. Puscifer is a place where Maynard lets his mind run wild with vocal distortion, drum machines and what almost seems like rap lyrics...and interestingly enough, it's pretty good. Those of you who are expecting another A Perfect Circle may look elsewhere. Out of the 10 songs on the album only 2, The Undertaker and Rev 22:20, seem to ring a similar tone to that of Tool or APC. There are love songs. There are sexy songs. There are sexy love songs. Then there are songs about pure, unadulterated (often dangerous) acts of sex that leave you wondering what just happened in your headphones. The sexiest song sung by the sexiest voice, Mr. Maynard. This is the dry martini remix, I dig. No female background vocals, more piano, Maynard's sexy and sultry tones permeate through my skin. It makes you feel as though you are having an affair with this song.

I just got the Puscifer album and I lurve it! Maynard's voice is distorted in every song which according to Amazon.com reviews pissed one person off incredibly, but it's a really good piece of art. It isn't Tool it, it isn't A Perfect Circle so if anyone is expecting that then...expect something else.
