Day 1 already a memory, our merry band of audio-philes prepared for our busiest day of the weekend. We had almost no rest but started the day out right. Dale and I hunted and gathered for breakfast and returned to the nest with pancake makings and fresh fruit and yogurt. Many mini pots of coffee was brewed and we dug into our vittles, Lizzie scoring a heart shaped banana pancake. Dale has chronicled his day here and we have some overlap. My day also starte... MORE

Saturday night at Coachella Festival after stellar sets by Kraftwerk & Portishead, the Purple Man himself performed. He did many of his hits like 'Controversy', 'I Feel For You', 'Seven', 'Purple Rain', 'Cream', 'Little Red Corvette' among many others that were mindblowingly great.
He also did a few cover versions too. He did Sarah McLaughlin's beautiful song "Angel" but his cover of the Radiohead classic 'Creep' was transcendent. It took me a minute to realize what ... MORE

For many this past weekend meant another weekend at home enjoy the usual-alities of life. For a lucky 150,000 it meant Coachella. I spent this morning searching YouTube for the hottest highlights from this year's desert festival (so you wouldn't have to). Watch Prince get wacky playing his classic "Red Corvette," listen to Jack Johnson geek out over listening to Prince sound check, and be "Wow"ed by Kraftwerks cool visual display during "The Man Machine." It's all below for y... MORE

The bottom line: Saturday = good. Not excellent, not MIND -BLOWING but pretty god-damn good. (wait till Sunday's review folks).
A Quickie Journal of the day?
MGMT was shy. Brazilian's Bonde De Role was young- w. scream-pop electro. Singer-Songwriter Kate Nash, whilst cute, was too peachy-keen for my taste. MIA - in glow-in-the-dark plastic-garbage bag bustier overflowed her tent w. her brand of electro-erotica, complete with (un-censored) gun shots. The Islands... MORE

I am sitting by the pool w. 10 other Coachella attendees- and we are all wondering if PRINCE will be worth it. According to Rollingstone, Coachella paid $4.8 Million to play today at Coachella (they again the RS source was Perez Hilton....remind me again how Rollingstone can quote Perez Hilton as a source?).....(See here: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/04/11/princes-reported-coachella-price-48-million/) and since there are 60,000 sales - for 3 days- th... Have the organizers of Coachella lost their minds? Not only will they allegedly pay Prince a whopping $4.8 million for his performance at the festival, but someone (reportedly an inside source) claims they added him to the bill because the rest of the lineup is a bit lackluster!! Many sources on the net are quoting a report on PerezHilton.com which claims a "source" told him:
"The promoters added him to try and sell more tickets and make up for a less than stellar - in c

It's a little odd to announce the headliner for your festival only two weeks before it takes place, but thats exactly what happened with Coachella and Prince. Portishead has been demoted as the lead act on Saturday, but I'm sure they understand.... it's PRINCE !
"The addition is reminiscent of 2006, when Madonna joined the Coachella bill just a few weeks before the show. While she performed just five songs in the dance tent, Prince will play a full show on the main stag... MORE

Prince killed it at the Super Bowl XLI halftime show performance last year, and although we won't get to see him at this years big game we do have a small consellation. The day after Super Bowl XLII , Rapster Records is releasing a compilation of Prince songs covered by a few of today's artists. Controversy will put new spins on songs such as "Purple Rain", "Starfish & Coffee", and "She's Always in My Hair".
01 D'Angelo: "She's Always in My Hair"

Prince from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2004. I'm sure many of you have seen it, and it's probably been posted on MOG a million times, but a million times would not be enough. I can't get enough of this. Check out Dhani Harrison's face when Prince steps up to take over...he looks like he's seeing God walk on stage.... MORE

Can Prince succeed where the United States government failed? How funny would it be if the Pirate Bay can fight off a big bad country-invading superpower but succumbs to a 5'2 singer in purple heels?
We'll find out because Prince has brought lawsuits against The Pirate Bay in three different countries. The bit torrent tracker will have to fight off the rock star in the U.S., France, and its home of Sweden. In addition to that, Prince is also taking aim at ... MORE

Last week unofficial Prince fansites claimed that they had received cease and desist orders from the rockstar's camp. Housequake.com, princefans.com and prince.org claimed that Prince would sue if the photos, images, lyrics, album covers and anything linked to him on the site were not removed. The three Web sites have since formed Prince Fans United, and are working together to fight back against his efforts, saying it's a violation of their free speech and the "bullying tact... MORE

Prince is on the internet.. Prince is on the internet.. Prince READS and follows what we say about him on the internet. You want to know why I know this? He answered all his fans over at his website who were PISSED off with one the funkiest songs he has produced in a long time. It is called PFunk. http://www.3121.com/jam/music/prince-pfunk.mp3 Please read here (with music, yes music!!): http://www.princefansunited.com/... MORE

Prince is suing fan websites (housequake.org, prince.org, etc.) that are using his copyrighted image online. If these images are being used for profit, and Prince receives no gain then I agree with what Prince is doing. However, these fan websites are just websites created without distributing his image for profit. This is the confusion that I have because each one protects Prince by having house rules on how they conduct themselves. They are unofficial fan websites but ... MORE
