Not really a song about winter only because of the inclusion of the word in the title. Maybe Prefuse 73 put a contact mic on the ground and sampled the sound of snowflakes as the struck the ground. Then he put it all in a sound wave blender and created some new monstrous beast of winter time sound. But I doubt it. He probably got this stuff from hip hop.
I'll say outright -- there's nothing spectacular about the vocal elements of this song. Though they hail from none other than the Wu, Masta Killa and GZA don't fit all that well into this song. That being said, I tend not to be focused on vocals and more on the beat. Prefuse 73 (aka Scott Heren) has to be one of my favorites. Don't know what triggered this lately. Co-worker turned me on to this guy a while back, and while I liked the stuff when I first played it, it's simply lit a fire under my ass this week. Definitely for fans of DJ Shadow, or better yet, most of the 'beat laden' liner music that Adult Swim used to use.
Is the Mog-O-Matic any better yet? I still have it installed, but I shut it off whenever it starts up. I haven't updated in a long time. I'm on a mac. Is it worth downloading a new version to let it track my song-playing, or re-index?
