AMG Review of The Silent Kind
Greg Adams
All Music GuidePreserving the cover photo of Porter with a blond pompadour and wearing a psychedelic print shirt, The Silent Kind is a budget CD reissue of the original 1967 album of the same name. In addition to "The Cold Hard Facts of Life," a tale of adultery and murder that reached number two on the C&W charts, The Silent Kind includes a few notable tracks, including "One More Dime" and a version of Bill Monroe's "Uncle Pen." The remainder of this brief album is heavy on recitations, which slow things down considerably. For fans and completists, The Silent Kind has its modest charms; for others, its rewards may be too slight.
