New Polvo: “Beggar’s Bowl” MP3

For this track review i turned to our in-house Polvo expert Casey Fighorn:“Beggar’s Bowl”, from the reunited/rejuvenated Polvo’s forthcoming In Prism (September 8th) disc, is an obvious return to form. Perhaps it takes a ten year hiatus to get you back to what you do best. The song is far more reminiscent of the band’s early, [...]

The band originally released two albums with Merge back in the early '90s, but its subsequent albums were released via Touch and Go. And now, after spending a good part of March and May recording in Carrboro and at Echo Mountain in Asheville, NC (with Brian Paulson), the band has emerged w...

Polvo – This Eclipse (Merge)Recorded in Hillsborough, North Carolina on August 21-22, 1995. Where earlier Polvo meandered in and out of form, THIS ECLIPSE is a jaw-clenched electric jolt to the temple of electric guitar. The band is more focused on this effort--their songs are more written than wrangled. THIS ECLIPSE shows Polvo as a band in a state of evolution. Much of Polvo's charm has been .

My Love Affair With Polvo

I know that people use the phrase, the "Fill In The Blank" Album changed my life, but I honestly think I can say that Today's Active Lifestyles changed mine, or definitely jumpstarted it. Back in 1993, I had (still have) a friend that worked at the college radio station and he let me borrow the promo copy, and I still remember when "Lazy Comet" came on, I totally freaked. Polvo – Exploded Drawing (Touch N Go)More welcoming and normal-sounding, thanks to their fullest production yet, but still full of cool ideas and beautiful executions, especially in the lovely "Fast Canoe," "In This Life," and "Taste Of Your Mind." Some of it rocks like Nugent ("Bridesmaid Blues"), some lopes and careens like a kangaroo with one busted leg ("Feather Of Forgiveness," "Crumbling .

Polvo- In Prism

Not sure you can pigeonhole this group. They are new to me, but I read they have been around for quite some time. They have a 70's rock sound and they are kind of progish, but not entirely. This is their new CD that the record company is letting you stream prior to the September release. CLICK THE COVER TO HEAR IT ALL.In Prism is the best Polvo record even before you get to the majestic "A Link...

Polvo. Where did I find this?

Do you have any bands that you have been into for years and now it has been so long you don't remember how you found them? Polvo is that band for me. What I do know is that I was really into Polvo back in the early/mid 90's. The weird thing about this is that there are not many bands that I do not remember where I first heard them or remember some story about when I bought my first cd by them. ...
