Pointed Sticks were a giddy organ-fueled power pop band with excellent songwriting chops and influences ranging from punk and proto-punk to British invasion, Squeeze, and XTC. The band was formed in early 1978 in Vancouver, Canada. They were the first Canadian band signed to the pioneering UK indie Stiff Records. Back from the country and gearing up to see one of my favourite bands from yesteryear, the Pointed Sticks, who are playing our town at the end of the month (Aug. 25) with the Riff Randells opening up.
While short-lived (1979-81) they put out some killer tracks which garnered the attention of the legendary UK label Stiff Records (Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, etc.) and were their first Canadian signing.
