AMG Review of Beyond the Valley of 1984/Metal Priestess
John Dougan
All Music GuideIf you're interested in actually listening to The Plasmatics (though I'd guess watching a video of them performing would be infinitely more satisfying) this is the only recording worth getting. More of a heavy metal than a punk record, it was reissued with their EP Metal Priestess, so you can get more bang (pun intended) for your buck. There are songs here worth playing more than once, and the outrage and vituperation seems real, even if it is a pose. Notable trivia: the drummer is ex-Alice Cooper tubman Neil Smith, a veteran of the Killer and Billion Dollar Babies Cooper era.
