AMG Review of Sister Freedom Tapes

All Music GuideThe year 1996 marked a year off for Pizzicato Five from any major recording, but they still managed some releases -- this being the only one with new material. Yasuharu Konishi stripped away the technology for this EP, recording the tracks live in the studio, hoping for a raw White Album sort of feel (albeit without the fighting). There's a rollicking run-through of "Airplane" from the Overdose album, a kazoo-based cover of the Beach Boys's "Passing By," and the sweet "To Our Children's Children's Children." Good evidence that the band isn't trapped by its synthesizers.
