A hit-or-miss collection of outtakes, demos, radio jingles, and live versions, Great White Wonder was inevitable in Pizzicato Five's discography, but it doesn't cheat the listener. "What's New Pussycat?" and "My Name Is Jack" (originally by Tom Jones and Manfred Mann, respectively) are adroit choices for covers, and "Spellbound" could have been a strong album track on Overdose. St. Etienne's remix of "Catwalk" rescues the track from Romantique 96, where it was rather forgettable. Konishi's second favorite chanteuse, Mari Natsuki (for whom Konishi had already produced two EPs) sings "Nata di Marzo," injecting it with her Jean Moreau-isms. A good momento for fans, but a rather bizarre place to start for beginners.
