Come on, my friends,Imagine you are on a cruise ship that is filled to the rafters with Pink Floyd fans enjoying third tier cover band (who even play stuff from The Division Bell ). To the life boats! » greatgiginthesea.com
Let's make for the hills.
They say there's gold but I'm looking for thrills.
You can get your hands on whatever we find,
Because I'm only coming along for the ride.

Wright, it turns out, wrote one of my Pink Floyd favorites, "Us and Them." (See, I would've guesse... MORE
LONDON (Sept. 15) - A Pink Floyd spokesman says founding member Richard Wright has died. He was 65. Wright died Monday after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. His family did not want to give more details about his death. The spokesman is Doug Wright, who is not related to the artist. Richard Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason at college and joined their early band Sigma 6. Sigma 6 eventually became Pink Floyd and Wright wrote and sang s... MORE
Direct quote today from the McCain campaign regarding when Sarah Palin will take questions: McCain campaign manager Rick Davis has said that Palin will "agree to an interview when we think it's time and when she feels comfortable doing it." (ap 9/9/08) Full article below: By SARA KUGLER, AP LEBANON, Ohio (Sept. 9) - John McCain took a risk in picking little-known Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a running mate, but now the campaign's playing it safer. She'... MORE
As a dyed-in-the-wool Apple "fanboi," I've been a huge fan of the iTunes store for several years. But recently, I've started buying from Amazon for several reasons, and thought I'd share a recent buying experience. I was shopping for Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon(the 1993 20th Anniversary remaster) this week. I checked iTunes, who wanted the standard album price, $9.99, which wasn't bad. While there, I also looked at The Wall and it was going for 25 bucks and cha... MORE
From Zeropaid.com There is an interesting report via the Hollywood Reporter from early last week that proves once and for all that the RIAA really doesn't care about music artists, or "content providers" as it often refers to them as. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/music/news/e3i29ce7ca58f3334d03346ad2dcaa23e21 For record labels are working to lower the "mechanical royalty" it's required to pay to songwriters and publishers. The RIAA says the c... MORE
Faith4Sweetgirl just sent me a letter through MOG! She must have read my post about the Spam mail, and decided that I was just the guy for her! She writes:Hello My Dear How are you doing today, i hope you are doing fine. I hope and i know that this email that i am sending to you would be reaching you in good health? I want to tell you something very important, though i am not suppose to tell you now because we just met but i know that you would be of good help to me, but ... MORE
I was working on a Halloween mix.
And I was excited to post about a bunch of music things.
But there's been a death in the family, my grandfather. So I've been trying not to listen to much music. I can't listen to anything happy and I don't want to put myself through listening to anything sad. So maybe some posts coming in a few days or so...
What makes one piece of music great in the minds of the masses, and another not? I asked this to myself today when I jumped in the car and turned on the radio to the sound of "Money" from Dark Side of the Moon. Pink Floyd may be the only band to successfully maintain a piece of Prog artistry on the moolah airwaves. Dark Side of the Moon has been called their opus, and I think it may be termed the opus of Prog fans too as part of our quest to convert the great unwashed li... MORE
Approximately 5 minutes ago the moon eclipsed for the last time until 2010...and I just thought this was appropriate.
I am a big fan of covers. All kind of covers - tributes, string quartet versions, bluegrass versions, straight covers, etc. Mostly I am a huge fan of covers that keep the original spirit of the work intact, while the artist renders their inspired interpretation. Covers are hit and miss. This cover is a hit. Personally I was skeptical when I first heard about this CD, but after now listening to it many times over - I still can't believe that one of the greatest records... MORE
As Mr. Ivylander and I were discussing the commodification of everything.....major labels and myspace have made a deal to perhaps make some money in the record biz again. We'll monetize around the experience in many ways, Kapur said. That includes such models as advertising, and downloads and mobile sales and ticketing and merchandising, and all of that flows into this ecosystem that we're building that's very much unprecedented. Can experience be monetized? Everythi... MORE
