Pinback “Autumn Seraphs”
By Roxy S.
4 out of 10 Lets face it. These days, time is scant. In between dealing with days that end in “Y” or that don’t start with “S,” we hardly find the time to kick back, put up our feet, pop open a cold can of soda, and read a review. Now that you have, however, I might as well make it worth your time and that can of soda by cutting to the chase about my take on the SoCal band Pinback, whose album “Autumn Seraphs” is due mid-September. A... MORE
what a fun last couple of weeks. to quickly wrap up i saw _lez zeppelin,_ an all-female _led zeppelin_ tribute band. i won the tickets from the local college radio station and wasn't really sure what i was in for. needless to say, steph paynes _was_ jimmy page. holy shit, i was screaming like a little girl, and the bassist melted my face (john paul jones would be proud). then last wednesday, _scout niblett_ and _st. vincent._ scout was exactly how i pictured her. powe... It's been a while since I've heard nice hooks like this. They remind me a bit of XTC. (I wonder if there's an Andy Partridge influence here...) Their new CD “Autumn of the Seraphs” is the most musically satisfying and complete album I’ve heard all year, by far. While all the members are clearly masters of their instruments, I must single out the drummers (two fellas played on the CD) because a snare drum has never sounded better, crisper or more emphatic. Add the soulful, hypnotic and slightly me... MORE
A new Pinback album is always good news. Next week the new album, Autumn Of The Seraphs, is out. Meanwhile, check out the opening track.
I know it's early, but this song caught my ear already. You'll understand why when you hear it. The drums drive the guitar melody right into your psyche. The rounding vocals are unrelenting in the chorus, begging:
Don't do this man.
There's another one off behind
Breaking down the door without
Warning.
The vocals compliment the guitar riff and follow blindly at the risk of being too....infectious.
Hi folks
