A dedicated Phyllis Hyman fan at last.fm has been "banging the gong" on behalf of this Jazz/R&B vocalist. I was at Jelly's on Wednesday, the 24th, and Alison Krauss & Union Station was playing on the in-store sound system. I took this as a sign to play something new. So, for those who only have access to uploaded MP3s, here's a Phyllis Hyman cover that made the 1977 Billboard R&B charts.

Here's a theme worthy of the modern woman! I thought that the sound effects on this track were odd/strange. but this was the 1980's, when dance music was still king. (Why do I see visions of Louis Armstrong dressed in a tiger skin costume?) A roaring success for Phyllis Hyman, who made the 1983 Billboard R&B charts with this warning for those who would dare to ride the tigress.

It's 2315 locally, so this is a Sunday under The Covers-to-be. In spite of atmospheric sound effects, this 1978 cover of "Here's That Rainy Day" is a triumph for Phyllis Hyman. On second thought, I'll write what was on my mind; "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head." Paul Newman has gone to argue with Edwin Booth over interpreting Shakespeare at the Celestial Playhouse. B.J. Thomas' song isn't in the MP3 or CD collection, but I've found something better than posting a lacry... MORE
