2000+ people gathered at the Theater at Madison Square Garden last night for what would be the seventh and final Jammy Awards show. But they all gathered to see one thing...jam band rockers Phish reunite. Despite rumors and the fact that all four members where on hand to accept the evening's Lifetime Achievement Award, they didn't. And in true Phish phasion, the band took their phans phor another joy ride.

This is a little astray of the Grateful Dead posting frenzy that's been going on today, but it's relevant to MY own personal relationship with jerry and the boys. Being in hign school when Jerry passed, I didn't get an adequate chance to live the deadhead experience (probably for the better). In college, I got into a vastly diofferent, yet cosmologically similar band, Phish. Fast forward to August 9th, 1998, the three year anniversary of Jerry's passing.
For lack of ac... MORE

I'm not the biggest Phish fan out there. All I have of theirs is this one lone bootleg titled "Catalyst". The cover art itself was worth the $5.00 admission fee, leaving no doubt what "catalyst" we were speaking of. Every time I listen to this, I think I need to add more of their stuff, and then somehow it, uh slips my....what were we talking about??? Anywho, their cover of Zeps Good Times, Bad Times is funky, rocky, and all around well played...y... MORE

Improvisational jamband Phish have been making headlines lately. Just yesterday, I posted a story about the band's drummer Jon Fishman playing a couple of shows with Yonder Mountain String Band.
Today news hits that the band, who broke up in 2004, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 Jammy Awards. Don't count on a reunion though. There's no word on weather any of the band members - Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon and Page McConnell - wil... MORE

I sure hope you all have read this because its about as fine a dissertation as I've read on the role of the guitarist's Solo.
I'd like to expand on his thoughts but alas I cannot.
This performance is a little outside the parameters as outlined by my esteemed colleague, but its certainly worthy of a listen.
Most know Phish 13 as the cd of their live performance of the White Album from beginning to end. But its that and much, much more.
The band was smokin' (hehe) that n... MORE

DAMN , even though it's 2:17am, I feel hyper as hell right now: somewhat "Bouncing Around the Room", if you will. I'm loving life very much, and my bipolar disorder has definitely swung to the hypomanic side of things. ;-)

Here's a little blast from my pass. I have mentioned various times that I was once obsessed with the band Phish. Yep, I was one of those people. I look back on that time with fondness, and a bit of disdain too. Frankly I can only really link my departure from their music as getting burnt out on everything that came with being a "phan" - the scene, the fans, the obsession, and the need to hear other music.
I still stand by my claim that Phish were one of the greatest ... MORE

Retired jam band Phish will be releasing their debut Vegas blowout as a live album on November 20th. Vegas 96, played at the end of the band's 35-date 1996 fall run at Las Vegas' Aladdin Theatre, will be released via the band's own JEMP records, which is devoted to releasing what the band members consider the greatest and most important shows of their career. Vegas 96 comes on the heels of the three-disc Colorado ’88, the double-DVD and three-CD sets Live In Brooklyn, an... MORE

Courtesy of The Ghost of Wayne Fontes 1) Because vegas just isn't fun anymore. 2) Because they still owe us that Halloween cover of the full Michael Jackson Thriller album (see Lincoln, NE 10 /21/95). 3) Because Antelope Greg might freak some people out as a member of regular society. 4) Because I am becoming really addicted to blogging. I need to get out more. 5) Because as they said in Providence (4/5/98), "We just can't end this thing without a li... MORE
