Phil Lesh & Warren Haynes Surprise At HeadCount Benefit
about 1 year ago
Blog post image preview

The line-up for Head Count's Election Eve Get Out To Vote party included ?uestlove, Joss Stone, Robert Randolph, Stanton Moore and other folks from the jamband scene. It was enough to pack NYC's Highline Ballroom, but it was the surprise, unannounced acts that stole the show. At 1 AM the venue started to weed out, but those patient enough for a really late-night encore were able to catch Gratef...

The Answer is Mogging

No work today and I fell asleep shortly after getting home yesterday so now I'm up at some ungodly hour of the morning, 5am is ok but the hours between midnight and 4 I usually reserve for rest...so here I am insomniating and ready to nail up some more shingles on the old barn, but it's too dark and quiet outside, besides I don't want to disturb the neighbors, (they're disturbed enough without m...

Nothing like the shuffle feature pulling something out of the library that you haven't played in awhile that you really enjoy. That's what just happened...and here it is. Phil Lesh-bass, John Molo-drums, Rob Barraco-keys, Warren Haynes-guitar, vocals, Jimmy Herring-guitar. Enjoy!

A Warfield Night, 11/27/07 (maiden voyage w/ the "new" Mog -- I like!)

Stopped in on the latest instantiation of Phil & Friends the other night. It's been a year or more since my last Phil show and this one was, frankly, damn good. Of particular note was the newest (and youngest by far) member, Jackie Green. He is truly a kid but an excellent multi-instrumentalist. And he "gets it" in terms of what Phil's looking for...At one point after he'd traded leads with Lar...

One for Woody

...at Roseland Ballroom in NYC on this date in Y2K...Allen Woody was the bass player in Gov't Mule and before that for the Allman Brothers Band. He died earlier in the year 2000 and this show was a memorial and benefit for his wife and daughter.Phil Lesh & Friends played first. I personally think Roseland is a lousy place for sound unless you are in one of a few sweet spots but it was great see...

Phil Lesh & Friends with Bob Dylan

..together in New Haven, CT, on this date in 1999...Phil & Dylan toured together several times around the turn of the century. It was a treat to see them at the Coliseum in New Haven as the place was the scene of many a night's music madness throughout the '80s. Tours stopped going there in any regular way by the mid-90s. In fact the Coliseum has since been torn down. What's crazy is that the p...

Stormy Mondays: Philathon Commences

Phil Lesh and Friends' Nokia run is just getting started, by all accounts with one clunker and one smoker, but before we get too caught up in the present, let's roll back to last year. The first NYC Philathon was the time the current band (sans Barry Sless, who is always a welcome addition) really [...]by Dan Alford Leave A Comment

Phil and Friends in Wallingford

...in Wallingford, CT on this date in 2001...I really love the Warren Haynes permutations of Phil's band and this show is pretty hot...several tunes that were new at the time and just some real tight playing. This is the most cohesive I remember any of Phil's projects sounding. Barraco's keyboard playing is really over the top and adds a lot to the sound.I admire the way Phil has mixed it up ov...
