I had a crazy dream last night, maybe this morning, and it's been on my mind all day. It basically had to do with the holidays. After a semi-climactic, 30-year career, Phil Collins decides to call it quits. I have to admit. When I was a kid, I was embarrassed that my mom listened to Genesis and Phil. Now, they are a must-play at my upcoming wedding. There you go, they've transcended time. There's no better time than now to leave when you have left a well-carved impression in the mind of my generation and future ones. Lately, when you hear the name Phil Collins, you may immediately think about his more recent, and, uh.. commercial works (Sussidio?) - but I recommend to all another listen of his seminal first solo album, "Face Value". While the most obvious song associated with this album is the iconic "In the Air Tonight", I'm recommending a re-listen to "The Roof is Leaking". It sort of stands out - a story song of pioneers struggling to make it through the winter.. in the midst of... MORE

Really cool video for The Gorilla Run, where over 700 people will run the streets of London in aid of Gorillas (of which there are 700 left in the wild).

Quite a few weeks ago now I had the Chart Show playing in my car when JK & Joel announced that Phil Collin's In The Air Tonight as at No 17. That's a bit - and I know this word is overused nowadays - random, I thought. Then a week or two ago my friends explained why and I saw the evidence for myself on TV...: It's quite good that downloads are now included in the sales - well they have been for a while now - but normally you'd have to wait for enough interest ... I just saw this new film today, which made me think about the old Phil Collins song that used to be the TV show's theme (or at least, featured prominently in it - can't remember). The film features, at roll credits, a new cover of this song by what sounds like a bunch of whiny young suburbanites. The mention of Phil Collins triggers some extreme reactions these days. Actually, I love the guy and I'm unashamedly a fan. Some of his recent material isn't up to the high standards he set at the start of his career, but there was a time when he could do no wrong. Powering Genesis to worldwide popularity in the 80s at the height of his own solo career, when he had string of number 1 hit singles from a collection of albums that everyone seemed to own. I was playing GTA Vice City Stories and got a little surprise when I saw that Phil Collins was a voice on the game. I thought it was coincedental, but then I saw that Phil Collins was also a character in the game. He even did a "live" rendition for a concert in Vice City. Here's that track.

I've always thought this guy was very talented. I remember seeing this video even when it first came out and thinking about my ex-girlfriend. This whole album is amazing. "I Wish It Would Rain Down", "Father to Sun", All of My Life", "Another Day in Paradise" and this gem. I hope you can relate to this video on some level.
