AMG Review of Petula 66
Bruce Eder
All Music GuideAnother Petula Clark album aimed exclusively at the French-speaking market, Petula 66 is highlighted by her version of Ray Davies' "A Well Respected Man" (as "Un Jeune Homme Bien") -- her version is so damn cute that by itself it makes the whole album worthwhile. Most of the rest is comprised of solid pop/rock (with more emphasis on the pop), authored in some combination by Clark or producer Tony Hatch, some of it more familiar to us in English ("Il Faut Revenir" aka "You'd Better Come Home") interspersed with some Serge Gainsbourg material. It's all an enjoyable extension of Clark's mid-'60s catalog, particularly for serious fans, who may well never have heard this material. Reissued on CD in 2000.
