Peter Tosh

While I go out and shovel snow, feel the riddim

Of all the Ex-wailers, Peter Tosh has long been my favorite. His music is _punchier_ than Bob Marley's, with an edge like a stepping razor. Here he takes on Chuck Berry's **Johnny B Goode** with his trademark slow-burn groove. Dig it!

The story goes that Peter Tosh knew that many wanted him dead. "I know I'm wanted because of the evil forces, but still I know there is another counter-force that counteract any evil force the forces of righteousness is a billion times more powerful." And then he took another hit from the peace pipe. Tosh eventually met his doom when murdered in Jamaica in 1987 at the age of 44. Now 20+ years l...

of a song better known in another form. Bunny Wailer's 1978 12" Discomix of "Love Fire" remains one of his best loved records, despite the best efforts of Simply Red to ruin it with a fairly pedestrian cover version. However, the genesis of the song was rather older, being released on HIM Intel Diplo by Peter Tosh with the Wailers( Bob Marley can clearly be heard singing "Come pn you weary soul...

YEEEE-HA! SUNDAY COVERS!

I have always liked Peter Tosh's music. I found it to be a little 'rockier' than a lot of Reggae music. Like Bob Marley, his music is imbued with a smoldering sense of anger at social injustice, and the emptiness of the spirit these injustices engender.More confrontational and militant than Marley, Peter Tosh was a stepping razor, not to be taken lightly. He also did some incredible covers in hi...

Today is Grounation Day

The most sacred day in the Rastafarian calendar; on 21st April 1966 Emperor Haile Selassie visited Jamaica, to be greeted by over 100,000 Rastafarians (the authorities had no idea there were so many on the island), reducing the arrival at the airport and his drive into Kingston to utter chaos. This is Peter Tosh's take on the events at the time. The tune and lyrics are based on an old mento tune...

SUTC - Johnny B. Goode

I have a soft spot in my heart for this song (the original Chuck Berry version) . My son Sean used to sing, dance and play air guitar to his version "Seanny be good". Dedicated this tune to my 'baby boy' who is now 26 and would be more likely to listen to the Tosh version.
