AMG Review of Six-Pack of Love
Denise Sullivan
All Music GuideA failed attempt at expanding his folk roots and augmenting it with the tricky production of Mitchell Froom, Case's simple songs were lost in the morass. A number of songs were co-written with legendary artists whom Case admires (Billy Swan, John Prine) but don't stand up against the sheer force of Case's voice and Froom's inexplicable arrangements. Nonetheless, "Beyond the Blues" by Case, Tom Russell and Bob Neuwirth and the jaunty tragedy (!) "Never Coming Home" make the record worth owning.
