AMG Review of Dilo (Ugh!)

All Music GuideDilo (Ugh!) explains the Prado grunts. "Dilo" means "say it," or when given as instruction to a trumpeter about to solo, "express yourself" or "blast it." Apart from the Spanish lesson, the album is the first with "Patricia," the smash hit of the summer of 1958 and the tune most identified with Perez Prado. "Why Wait" is another big single, featuring guitar as it does with a perky "rockambo" (mambo/rock) beat. It even has whistling. "Cuban Rock" and "Back Bay Shuffle" are two other progressive Latin-rock hybrids. With hit singles, a new sound, and even interesting filler, Dilo is fairly well-rounded for what could have been just a scramble to get "Patricia" out the door.
