Blog post image preview
Not to be confused with The Who's 5:15, this little song was left off the now unavailable 49:00, which as I explained earlier mysteriously disappeared from Amazon this week.

Paul Westerberg's 49:00, a 43-minute one track album of stripped down rockers, disappeared from the Amazon mp3 charts, and Amazon itself this week.  Last week, 49:00 was at the top of the site's mp3 album chart. Speculation on a Paul Westerberg fan web site (paulwesterberg.net) is that the release ran into copyright problems with a medley of covers near the end of the album.  The covers included snippets of Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild and the Partidge Family's I Woke Up... New Paul Westerberg: 49:00

Artist:
Album:
Track: Who You Gonna Marry?
(59)

Here is the first song -- there are no tracks -- on Paul's new 49:00 release -- which is available as a 49 cent download this week at Amazon.  If these are throwaways, I can't wait until his next proper release.  Great stuff -- more later.

Blog post image preview Here another "track" off the new Paul Westerberg release.  This is a crunchy little number that is about a third of the way through this one track marvel.   Cutting this up is hard, because there are some terrific snippets of songs crammed between each longer form tune.  It starts with a bang.  There are no song titles either, so I'm making them up -- and not being very creative as you'll see if you listen.  At the end is a quick ditty -- that's all there is, unfortunately... Do people still like to rock?  The answer seems to be yes if they can get an entire album worth of songs for 49 cents.  Paul Westerberg's stunt makes his new release the top album download at Amazon this week.  Last week I posted two songs from this epic one track here on my MOG:

Westerberg does Dylan

(16)
best known as the former lead singer and songwriter of The Replacements, one of the seminal alternative rock bands of the 1980s, he launched a solo career after the dissolution of that band, and he no doubt jumped at the chance to do a Dylan cover. Hey, I liked it

Day 9 - Paul Westerberg - It's a Wonderful Lie

Blog post image preview Originally posted on September 21st, 2006 If I am able to get in touch with my old boss Aaron, I should buy him dinner or something. He is responsible for introducing me to some of my favorite music, including Paul Westerberg, who is quite possibly my favorite songwriter. It started with an interest in Elvis Costello. In this day and age, it’s easy to research just about anything through the internet and search engines, but I didn’t get a computer until the late 90’s. Th... MORE

Blog post image preview Paul Westerberg is back in action, but only in Minneapolis. The former lead singer and songwriter of The Replacements, Westerberg has been reported to be primarily recording his music at home in his basement in the Minneapolis suburbs. Commonly, the 47 year old has been dubbed a recluse. Apparently, not anymore. The Minneapolis rock icon took to the stage Sunday at the city's legendary First Avenue night club for an installment of "The Craft," a Rock and Roll Hall of F... MORE

Good Morning; How About Some Paul Westerberg?

Artist:
Album:
Track:
Blog post image preview I've been hearing some unexpectedly good songs in restaurants lately. Yesterday, I was picking up Chinese food and this was on -- I guess they had XM. I haven't put this CD on in years! What a great song . . . it's a little embarrassing to be singing along at the take out counter, but I guess I don't really care.

Free music video of World Class Fad (1)
I was thinking of making a mix cd of songs about musicians/bands calling out the new generation of artists. One of the classics under this heading would of course be Who Are You by the Who which Pete Townshend wrote for the punk bands in the late 70's. The only other song I was able to come up with on my own was World Class Fad by Paul Westerberg. "If you want it that badBe a world class fadRemember leave a trail of crumbsIf you want it that badYou`re a world class f... MORE

A love song of sorts...

Artist:

Blog post image preview I hate using the word "underrated" to describe Paul Westerberg, and I'm not sure it's all that accurate, since most people who have heard him rate him pretty high. Former creative genius and one of the key boozehounds behind the great crash-and-burn outfit known as The Replacements, Westerberg has since established a more or less solid solo career where he pretty much does it all, which seems to work out for him. This is one of my favorite cuts from what I believe is his l... MORE

i just had this feeling that it was a paul westerberg kind of day. something about the sun and the wind and the being stuck inside my store all afternoon. something about the way the dust keeps blowing off the counters by the resurfacer and how we could probably turn off the lights and it would be just as bright in here because that's how bright the sunshine is today. so i put in the store's copy of stereo. and it worked. it fit. it's like all the pieces came toget... Blog post image preview one a.m. and no sleep in sight, put on some shoes and pop, click, poof, light the cigarette, feet on the steps, feet on the concrete, in the car, windows down, rain waiting to fall. the night sits like a drunk waiting to pass out, just on the edge of something tragic and stunning, on weather, on rain, on humidity and cold air just on the other side of the mountain. push the car harder, faster, up the mountain, fifty feet in front of the star, ride it hard, settle into ... calgon, take me away.

Artist:

Track: fugitive kind.
This song stayed at number one on my playlist for months. Its still at the top of the 25 most played songs on my ipod and is one of my favorite tracks off of one of my favorite records of all-time, ever. I'm a whore for the replacements. They were everything i seemed to have missed in music, the punk rock diaspora that manifested itself in funny places and sad songs, a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, a little bit t-rex and a little the jam. I effing love ... MORE
